GED: General Education Development

To enroll as a new student, you must attend an Orientation session and take a test prior to registering for classes. Orientation is three hours. Call 610-799-1955 to learn more.

Pre-GED Instruction
Pre-GED classes provide support in basic reading, writing, and math skills. Valuable life management skills such as banking, shopping, computer, and goal setting are also taught in the class. This course helps students make the transition to the GED Preparation class.

GED Preparation
Through a grant funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, teachers assist students in the skills necessary to successfully pass the GED test. Students receive free assistance in goal setting, employability skills, computer basics, and transitioning to post-secondary education.

Mathematics for the GED
Improve your math skills to pass the GED Mathematics exam. Class content focuses on problem solving using basic math operations, fractions, decimals, percents, pre-algebra, and basic geometry. GED Preparation in Spanish

Spanish for Spanish Speakers

Official GED Testing
The official GED test is given twice a month at the Donley Center in downtown Allentown. Please call 610-799-1940 for dates and times. Cost: $65

To register for the official GED test you must:

  1. be a Pennsylvania resident
  2. no longer be enrolled in school
  3. apply at LCCC's Donley Center at 718 Hamilton Street
  4. bring a photo id (less than 4 years old)
  5. fill out an application
  6. bring a check or money order in the amount of $60 (no cash)
  7. be 18 or older (some exceptions apply)
  8. bring your social security number

ESL: English as a Second Language

Students must take a test prior to registering for these courses. Due to limits on class size and availability of funding, there may be a waiting list. Call 610-799-1955 for more information.

Introduction to ESL
This class helps students develop basic language skills for daily usage, while incorporating a civic component that prepares students for the citizenship test if desired. These free classes are grant-funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

Foundations of ESL
Develop basic language skills in the areas of reading, writing, speaking, and listening for greater comprehension through a skill-integrated curriculum, including basic sentence structure and grammar, oral expression, and vocabulary development.

ESL 1
This beginner level ESL class provides an introduction to English as a second language and to English language studies at LCCC. The class covers greetings, American culture, grammar basics, vocabulary for the workplace/community, and other survival skills that individuals need to live in the US. Individuals must complete an assessment test prior to registering and may take this as a supplement to Introduction to ESL. Call 610-799-1955 for information on pretesting.

Sharpen your skills for success in today's workplace using the KeyTrain system to assess and remediate areas for development in Reading for Information, Locating Information, and Applied Math for the workplace.
