GED

NEW CLASSES START EVERY 10 WEEKS. Duet to limits on class size, there may be a waiting list. Students must take a test before registering for these classes. For more information, call 610-799-1955.

GED Preparation
Through a grant funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Lehigh Carbon Community College is offering free GED classes. Teachers assist students in the skills necessary to successfully pass the GED test. Students receive free assistance in goal setting, employability skills, computer basics, and transitioning to post-secondary education.

Pre-GED Instruction
Free pre-GED classes provide support in basic reading, writing, and math skills. Valuable life management skills—such as banking, shopping, computer, and goal setting—are also taught in the class. The Pre-GED program also helps students make the transition to the GED Preparation program.

GED Preparation in Spanish
Taking and passing the GED test is a necessary step in professional and personal growth. Prepare to take the GED test in Spanish and prepare for success. Instruction will be given in Spanish and will cover all areas of the GED test: writing, reading, math, social studies, and science. Call 610-799-1940 for more information.

Official GED Testing
The official GED test is given twice a month at the college's Donley Center in downtown Allentown. Please call 610-799-1940 for dates and times. Cost: $60

To register for the official GED test you must:

  1. be a Pennsylvania resident
  2. no longer be enrolled in school
  3. apply at LCCC's Donley Center at 718 Hamilton Street
  4. bring a photo id (less than 4 years old)
  5. fill out an application
  6. bring a check or money order in the amount of $60 (no cash)
  7. be 18 or older (some exceptions apply)
  8. bring your social security number

Introduction to English as a Second Language
Develop basic language skills for daily usage while incorporating a civics component that prepares students for the citizenship test if desired. This free class is grant-funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Call 610-799-1955 for more information.

Introducción al Ingles Como Segundo Idioma

Foundation of English as a Second Language
Develop basic language skills in the areas of reading, writing, speaking, and listening for greater comprehension through a skill-integrated curriculum, including basic sentence structure and grammar, oral expression, and vocabulary development. Call 610-799-1955 for more information.

Fundación de Ingles Como Segundo Idioma

Speaking Skills for English Language Learners
Improve your speaking for daily tasks, such as shopping, visiting the doctor, or using the telephone. Increase your ability to communicate with co-workers and supervisors. Gain confidence for talking to your child's teacher. Listening activities will also improve your ability to understand spoken English. Thisclass is for intermediate-level students only. Financial assistance is available.

Credit Prep ESL

This class is designed to give intermediate-level students more practice in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. This class prepares students for credit classes in English as a Second Language. Call 610-799-1955 for more information. Financial assistance is available.

Advanced Skills for English Language Learners

This class focuses on the advanced reading, writing, and speaking skills that English language learners need at home, at work, and in the community.Topics include health, shopping, education, banking, work readiness, and community issues. Students will gain fluency in tasks such as talking on the telephone, writing letters, completing forms, asking for or giving information, and conversing with native English speakers. Approval of coordinator is required to register for this class. The class is open to students who have completed Foundation of English as a Second Language or who pretest at this level.
